Can British nationals in France go to the UK for Covid jab?

Reader question: I am a UK passport holder but I am a resident in France. Can I travel back to the UK to get a Covid-19 vaccination?

The UK government does not recommend this.

“Wherever possible British nationals should aim to be vaccinated in their country of residence,” the government’s website states.

“British nationals living overseas should seek medical advice from their local healthcare provider in the country where they reside.”

The Daily Express newspaper reported in January that a UK Department of Health spokesperson confirmed this.

“Anyone who is returning to live in the UK from abroad will be eligible for the vaccine…” the spokesperson told the newspaper.

“Britons living overseas should obtain the vaccine in their country of residence. They cannot arrange a vaccine in the UK from overseas.”

France is currently vaccinating people aged over 75 and those with serious health conditions.

The country’s Ministry of Health confirmed to The Connexion that people residing in France who are not in the healthcare system or do not have a carte Vitale can still receive a Covid-19 vaccination.

How to get Covid vaccine in France if no carte Vitale

Non-residents, including second home owners and those currently on holiday in France, will not be eligible for a vaccination.
