The main income tax form to be filled in is the 2042-Millésime 2022.
This can be completed automatically online at impots.gouv.fr, where you will be prompted to click ‘Accédez à votre déclaration’ and then either to enter your tax number or to log in through FranceConnect.
However, if you want to source a hard copy of the 2042 form online, go to impots.gouv.fr, scroll up to the top, type in 2042 and look at the right-hand side of the results page.
This will show the various different tax documents containing the number 2042, and the standard income tax form should be the second on the list.
Make sure that you are looking at the 2022 document, rather than the 2021 or 2020 version, which are also included in the list.
The 2041-NOT at the top of the list contains advice on how to fill in your form correctly.
You will also see several different variations of the form, such as 2042-C for extra revenues and charges not included in the original, and 2042-C-PRO for the self-employed.
Your 2042 form can then be downloaded and printed out.
You may not have been able to find the form on the website when the declarations opened because the tax authorities normally send out partly pre-filled forms for people to complete and so wait for this to have happened before presenting this form as an option online.
This year, paper tax declarations must be returned by May 19.
For online declarations coming from departments 1 (Ain) to 19 (Corrèze), non-residents and Monaco, the deadline is May 24, while for departments 20 (Corsica) to 54 (Meurthe-et-Moselle) it is May 31 and for departments 55 (Meuse) to 976 (Mayotte) it is June 8.
