Car repairs? Where you live could drive up the cost
The cost of getting your car repaired varies significantly across France, a study has found, with Île-de-France the most expensive region.
The average car owner spends around 15-20% of their car budget on repairs and maintenance, according to the French Automobile Association Club, with costs in Île-de-France around 15% higher than the rest of the country for equivalent work, according to a study by the online comparison website Idgarages.com.
The cheapest region was the Hauts-de-France, with prices for repairs 11% less dear than the average, while the Nouvelle Aquitaine and Occitanie were 7% and 6% cheaper respectively.
Conversely, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes et Provence-Alpes Côte d'Azur, prices are 9% and 8% higher than the average respectively.
Idgarages.com found that it costs on average €46,04 to have a full electronic check-up, around €52,34 for work on the brake liquid, €226,54 for replacement of brake discs, and as much as €680,23 for a replacement clutch.
“The bills from garages reflect the wide differences in the cost of living in our regions,” said Jonathan Bloch, director of Idgarages.com, commenting on the figures. “In Île-de-France and Rhône-Alpes, the average salary is higher, and the price of property has soared. This is to be seen, expectedly, in garages too."
