Supermarket ham terrine recalled around France
The meat could contain the harmful salmonella bacteria and should not be eaten
Several brands of ham and parsley terrine sold in a major supermarket across France have been recalled due to possible presence of salmonella.
Products by three different brands sold in all Carrefour stores are listed on the RappelConso site – a government platform for reporting dangerous product alerts and recalls.
The hams concerned were sold between November 13-16 and include:
- Le jambon persillé sold under the ‘Carrefour’ brand, by the slice or in vacuum-sealed packs in the charcuterie section. Its barcode is 1111111111116 and the use-by date is December 19, 2023.
- Le véritable jambon persillé de Bourgogne sold under the brand ‘Sélectionné par nos charcutiers!’ in slices sold by weight. Its barcode is 3441700270589 and the use-by date is December 13, 2023.
- Le véritable jambon persillé de Bourgogne sold under the brand ‘Reflets de France’, in a slice of 180g. Its barcode is 3245390214263 and the use-by date is December 13, 2023.
You can find more information about the products recalled on the RappelConso website’s meat section here.
Presence of potential salmonella
These various delicatessen meats have been recalled over fears of the presence of salmonella, the bacteria responsible for salmonellosis food poisoning.
Food poisoning caused by salmonella "causes a sudden onset of gastrointestinal disorders (diarrhoea, vomiting) often accompanied by fever and headache that generally occur six to 72 hours after the consumption of contaminated products," says RappelConso.
The site states that these symptoms may be more pronounced in young children, pregnant women, immunocompromised individuals and the elderly.
If there are no symptoms within 7 days after consuming the affected products, there is no need to worry or consult a doctor.
Return to point of sale
It is possible to cook hams at temperatures above 65°C to destroy bacteria, however RappelConso still advises to avoid consuming the products and to bring them back to the store. A refund procedure will run until Monday, December 4.
For more information, you can contact 08 05 50 00 85 from Monday to Saturday from 9:00-19:00.
