A 19-year-old woman has given birth on a nightclub dance floor in Toulouse, with staff helping to deliver a healthy little boy before emergency services arrived.

The birth happened at 5h30 at the O’Club nightclub on Route d’Agde in the Occitanie city, on Monday November 11. The woman, who knew she was pregnant, had been encouraged to come to the club by a friend, to help “cheer her up about her personal problems”.

She had not been drinking alcohol, and her baby was born quickly, with both mother and son leaving in good health, staff said.

Co-manager of the club, Marie-Hélène, told local newspaper La Dépêche du Midi: “It was 5h30, closing time, and there weren’t many people left. A staff member came to see me, and said, ‘It’s urgent’. I saw that the woman was in the middle of giving birth.”

Staff called emergency services, but had to act quickly in the meantime.

Marie-Hélène continued: “One of us was on the telephone with [emergency medics] the Samu, who explained to us what to do first. The young girl wasn’t panicked, but she was worried. But the baby came out easily. For us, it was an extraordinary closing time.

“Our team bonded. We cried. What is positive is that we didn’t panic, and we weren’t afraid. We understood that the baby was coming, no matter what. I hope that [the mother] will keep us updated.

“If the baby comes back to Route d’Agde, in a few years, we would love to give him free entry for life.”
