Taxpayers and property owners in France should note a small but significant change to the French tax website, as a key area has changed name.
The name of a user’s personal space – formerly ‘Espace particulier’ – is now called the ‘Espace Finances publiques’ or Public Finances Area.
This is the area where users log in to make their annual spring income declaration, pay property taxes, and declare changes to the use of any properties they own using the Biens Immobiliers section.
Other than the name change, there are no updates to the interface or how the system is used, and the button is located in the same space – the top right-hand corner of impots.gouv.fr.
No changes have been made to the ‘espace professional’ area used by business owners.
More services to become available next year
The change, which has been in place since December 15, is the first step in a wider upgrade to the services available.
The new name has been made to “prepare for the future of your secure online space, the developments of which you will be able to discover in the coming months,” said the Direction générale des Finances publiques (DGFiP or French tax officials) in a press release.
In time, these updates will allow users to “benefit from new services that will go beyond just tax-related tasks,” it said.
These changes look to update the new section to slowly encompass all areas of public finance for residents.
Certain payees “can now view and pay certain local utility bills, such as water bills, school lunch fees, childcare fees, after-school activity fees, and hospital bills” through the portal, said the DGFiP, with this being rolled out further throughout 2026.
In addition, it will be the space to declare gifts, which will soon become a fully online process.
