Two huge fin whales seen off coast of Marseille
Two fin whales, the second biggest animal in the world after the blue whale, have been spotted off the coast of Marseille – no doubt benefitting from the lack of moving boats and human activity due to home confinement.
The fin whales, measuring around 20metres in length, approached the coast in the national reserve the Parc des Calanques.
The park’s guard patrol said it had observed a lot of different species since the beginning of the confinement period, including more dolphins and sea birds.
The patrol filmed a video of the whales approaching – you can watch it here.
A park spokesperson said the whales’ ‘visit’ was probably “one of the effects of confinement.”
