Cashier thought armed raid a joke
Robber forced to flee on his bike empty-handed after supermarket raid goes wrong
AN armed robber had to get on his bike and flee empty-handed after trying to hold up a supermarket cashier – who point-blank refused to give him any money as she thought it was a joke.
The man, wearing a black and white crash helmet, had walked into the Carrefour Contact store at Haveluy, near Valenciennes in Nord just before 19.00 and headed for the cash desk.
He threw a bag at the cashier and, pointing his pistol at her, told her to fill it with money from the till.
But the woman thought she was being set up by friends and refused to give him anything. Even when she realised it was a real robbery she refused to give up.
Confused, as no one else way paying him any attention, the robber turned tail and fled on his bike, still wearing his crash helmet.
