Character, judgment, ability: all wrong
Theresa May’s reported comment ‘‘I got us into this mess and I will get us out of it” is progress on her statement on the result of June’s Election: “I will have to consider how to take the party forward.”
Mrs May should instead consider how she managed to take her party backwards.
During the campaign, she came across as arrogant; displayed no sincerity; was unable to make a speech without constant reference to notes; made more U-turns than a spiral staircase; was reluctant to disclose her manifesto and then refused to take part in debates.
Furthermore, in calling the election, she broke the golden rule of management: “If it isn’t broken don’t fix it”.
So now Parliament is in disarray, she has impaired her credibility in Europe for the Brexit talks and the pound has lost value causing pensions paid in euros to drop again.
