Covid jab open to all over 70s in France from Saturday 27
The announcement was made by President Macron while on a visit to the Nord department which has been heavily affected by Covid-19
President Emmanuel Macron has announced that Covid-19 vaccinations will be open to all over 70s from Saturday (March 27).
Currently, people aged 65 to 74 are only eligible if they have underlying health issues such as cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, chronic respiratory diseases, obesity, etc.
“I want us to organise things in a methodical manner, descending by age brackets,” he said while on a visit to Valenciennes (Nord) today (March 23).
He also stated that a dedicated phone number will be made available for people aged over 75 who have not yet managed to get vaccinated.
“We need to continue to search for people over 75 who have not yet been vaccinated and those who have not managed to get an appointment. This will be an organisation that we put in place locally and nationally.”
Before this announcement, the government had stated plans to open the vaccination to all people aged 65 to 74 by between the end of March and mid-April, depending on the number of vaccine doses available and the number of over 75s still waiting to be vaccinated.
You can receive a Covid-19 vaccination in France at a dedicated centre, from your local pharmacy or from your GP.
It is not yet clear if President Macron meant that over 70s can be vaccinated only at dedicated vaccination centres or also by their GP and pharmacist.
