Eiffel Tower lit up to mark Neymar move to PSG
Some politicians were angered by the publicity
He’s one of the top football players in the world and has just made the move to Paris Saint-Germain.
In the biggest transfer in football history, Neymar da Silva Santos Júnior, commonly known as Neymar, made the move from Barcelona to Paris Saint-German (PSG) for €222million.
Between 21h30 and 1h on Saturday, the Eiffel Tower was lit up in red and blue and emblazoned with his Neymar’s name to celebrate the move.
But not everyone was happy with the publicity.
Politician Yves Jégo took to social media, saying that to light up the Eiffel Tower in honour of the player was “too much”:
Neymar au PSG ..certes ....mais de la a transformer la #TourEiffel en support publicitaire d'un soir ..comment dire #toomuchnon?

And Senate member Yves Pozzo di Borgo similarly commented on his Twitter:
Administrateur de la Tour Eiffel je découvre que la ville impose un éclairage spécial pour Neymar C'est du n'importe quoi! #Neymar
— Yves Pozzo di Borgo (@YvesPDB) August 5, 2017
The Qatari-owned PSG reportedly paid €50,000 for the publicity, according to La Chaîne Info, but declined to comment on the details.
Mr Neymar was the world’s fourth highest paid footballer in 2016, according to Forbes magazine, raking in $36million.
