French weekly weather forecast September 8 to 12: cooler and lots of rain

Unsettled conditions are set to return across France after a short-lived return of summery weather at the weekend

A series of rain-bearing fronts will sweep across the country this week

Unsettled conditions will bring heavy cloud cover and rain across France this week after a short-lived return of summery weather at the weekend

The country is now under the influence of a wet weather front inbound from the Atlantic, bringing showers, bands of rain and only brief spells of sunshine. Any clear intervals will be too short to change the overall picture.

Monday, September 8: a turbulent start

The week begins with widespread cloud cover. A weather front will cross the country, producing stormy showers from the south-west through to the eastern borders.

In the west, skies will alternate between cloud, showers and fleeting sunny breaks, with temperatures cooler than on Sunday.

Tuesday, September 9: heavy rain in the south-east

A new disturbance will move up from the Mediterranean, affecting southern and eastern regions.

This situation will need close monitoring as locally intense rainfall and thunderstorms are possible.

In the south-west and in Brittany, conditions will remain wet due to another approaching front. Elsewhere, variable skies may allow for more sunshine.

Wednesday, September 10: more showers

Showery rain will persist across the east, while the front that arrived over Brittany will spread into Atlantic regions.

Between these systems, more variable conditions are expected, with some sunshine punctuated by isolated showers.

Thursday and Friday: More rain

A series of rain-bearing fronts will sweep across the country from Thursday, particularly in the north, where conditions look most unsettled.

Only the south-east, especially near the Mediterranean, may see more stable and sunny periods.

Despite the turbulent conditions, temperatures will remain near average for early September.

Cloud cover will keep nights mild, with lows ranging from 12C in the north to 16C in the south.

Daytime highs will generally reach 20C to 25C, but showers and heavy cloud cover will make the week feel particularly autumnal at times.
