Heavily-jewelled church crown stolen
A crown with 1,791 jewels has been stolen in a million- euro raid on Lyon’s Musée de Fourvière, beside the basilica where it was a key to the city’s religious history.
The 19th century Couronne de la Vierge was made by the city’s goldsmiths using jewels offered by women whose men returned from war.
