Newark-Marseille, New York JFK-Nice, Austin-Paris, and Washington DC-Toulouse are among new options for people flying from the US to France next year.

All routes will use long-range aircraft from Airbus, with the Newark, New York JFK and Washington links favouring a transatlantic version of the Airbus A320, called the A321XLR.

United Airlines is a major customer for the new aircraft and said it is confident that the Airbus factory in Toulouse will deliver in time for the opening of its new routes in spring and summer next year.

The aircraft will have around 150 seats, including 20 that can be converted to beds inside closed cabins.

Flights will usually take around nine hours.

New routes to Marseille and Toulouse

The announcement of United Airlines’ Marseille-Newark route was welcomed at Marseille-Provence Airport, which already handles around 250,000 passengers on direct US flights each year, mainly offered by European and UK firms.

“It is a historic day for our airport, which will welcome a US airline for the first time,” said the president of the airport, Julien Coffinier.

“This new line will generate significant economic returns, with an expected rise in the number of visitors from New York and all over the US.”

Other long-haul destinations from the airport include New York’s JFK Airport, Shanghai, La Réunion, Guadeloupe, Montreal and Addis Ababa.

Tickets are already on sale on the airport website for the Newark service, which starts on June 5, 2027.

Prices quoted for a week-long return journey on Mondays in June were €724 each.

The same aircraft will be used on a new Washington-Toulouse line, due to start on April 26, also with United Airlines.

It will not be the first transatlantic flight from Toulouse airport for the A321XLR. Air Canada started a regular service to Montreal using the aircraft in June.

Philippe Crébassa, president of Toulouse-Blagnac airport, said: “Apart from the symbolism of an aircraft made in Toulouse making the flight, this new-generation aircraft opens our perspectives for long-haul connectivity between our region and the American continent.”

New York-Nice and Paris-Austin

American Airlines is also launching a new daily direct service from Nice’s Côte d’Azur Airport to New York JFK, scheduled to begin on May 6, 2027. It complements another direct route already operating between Nice and Philadelphia.

For the new Paris-Austin (Texas) service, Delta will be using larger Airbus A330-900 aircraft, which are wider and have two aisles between seats.

The aircraft will have four seating classes, with the top class, called Delta One, boasting seats that convert into beds in closed cabins.

Delta did not give pricing information, telling The Connexion: “Decisions are guided by market dynamics and a continued focus on delivering customer value and choice.”

US-France air traffic

July figures released by France’s environment ministry show that air traffic between France and the US was down 2.9% compared to the same period in 2025, but up 2.7% when compared to 2019, the last year before the Covid-19 pandemic severely disrupted international travel.
