Organic farmer job ad posted in Dijon

The commune is offering to lease a four-hectare plot of land, with access to water and electricity networks and permission to construct agricultural buildings.

The job advert was posted on the Quetigny.fr website. Applicants are invited to send creative proposals by October 27, which can include work plans, diagrams and videos.

It is hoped the role will boost organic farming in the region. The commune hopes to develop greater self-sufficiency in the Dijon area over the next decade, in response to local demands and climate change. France is the biggest agricultural producer in Europe but only around 6 percent of its farmland is organic.

The commune also plans to rebalance the economy in favour of rural areas and make Quetigny a sustainable development commune. In 2016 the town launched one of the largest organic produce markets in Bourgogne-Franche-Comté, attended by over 5000 visitors.

The position includes an educational package with environmental and sustainable development courses.

The commune has already taken steps towards organic farming and sustainability, allocating 43 hectares to a special agricultural zone, which include the four hectares advertised. Two organic producers are already active in Quetigny.

Job candidates will be examined by a jury of the mayor of Quetigny and representatives from Dijon Métropole, BioBourgogne, the regional agriculture board and local organic agriculturalist Gilles Lambert.
