Pride in French identity down

Pride in French nationality has dropped 10% compared to last year.

PRIDE in French nationality has dropped 10% compared to last year.

Only 79% of people who took part in a study by survey body Ifop felt proud of being French, down from 89% last year. Out of these, 29% of them felt very proud and 50% quite proud.

The national debate that was held on national identity therefore appears to have failed in this respect.

People over 65 were most likely to feel proud (83%) and 25- to 34-year-olds the least likely (74%).

Managers and professionals felt prouder than workers and right-wingers more so than left-wingers.

A sample of 1,000 people were questioned over the internet by Ifop.
