Show TV and films in VO says MP

Law could force channels to replace French dubbing with subtitles so the country can improve language skills

FRENCH TV channels could be legally obliged to broadcast shows in their original language with French subtitles in a bid to improve the country's language skills.

MP Denis Jacquat has put forward a law demanding that films and TV series should automatically be shown VOSTF (version originale sous-titrée en français).

Some digital TV channels offer the ability to switch between French dubbing and original language versions on certain programmes, but the law, if passed, would make it compulsory.

The law is being introduced to 'improve the development and competence of listening comprehension'.

Mr Jacquat proposed a similar law at the same time last year but the proposal was not passed.
