French grants for home renovations are changing
Act now if you want to fit a wood stove before the MaPrimeRénov grants are reduced in 2025
Property renovation: new 0% loan to top-up French ‘MaPrimeRénov’ grant
The interest-free loan is designed to boost the existing state grant for eco-friendly updates to your property
Householders wanting to carry out eco-friendly renovations at their main homes can now combine an interest-free eco-loan with state grants for the work.
Show proof of your MaPrimeRénov grant
A special version of the éco-prêt à taux zéro for up to €30,000 is specifically aimed at topping up the MaPrimeRénov grant and any other financial aids you can obtain.
You may even apply for this loan after you have started the work in question, provided it did not begin more than six months earlier.
All you have to show the bank is proof of the agreement from the Agence nationale de l’habitat (Anah) to give you a MaPrimeRénov grant.

Most high street banks will offer loan
It is not necessary to provide any list of works, or estimates and bills. The loan should be agreed within six months of the date of the Anah approval.
It is likely that the same banks that offer the ordinary interest-free eco-loan – up to €50,000 and not designed to be combined with a grant – will be able to offer the new version.
That includes most of the main French high-street banks, such as Crédit Agricole, La Banque Postale, Société Générale, and Banque Populaire.
Access to the loan is not subject to income levels.
More MaPrime-Rénov grant for lower earners
Those on higher incomes are not excluded from a MaPrimeRénov grant but the amount you might obtain and the type of work that is eligible do vary, depending on the level of your revenu fiscal de référence – the net taxable income, shown on your last avis d’impôt for income tax.
You will fall into one of four coloured bands, according to income level.
The highest grants are available to those in the lowest (‘blue’) category – under €15,262 for a single person outside Ile-de-France, or €22,320 for a couple.
Getting started
The best way to get started is to obtain advice from an adviser at France Rénov’ (telephone 0808 800 700, or visit in-person sites).
You will need to obtain a quote from a tradesperson with RGE environmental accreditation and create an account at maprimerenov.gouv.fr
Until the end of the year, an extra €1,000 is available as part of the grant, towards replacing heating oil or gas boilers with more eco-friendly options, due to the war in Ukraine.
