Dispute over Navigo pass price rise

The cost of using a Navigo pass to travel on public transport in Paris and Île-de-France is set to rise in January - but there is confusion over how much.

BFMTV reported on Thursday that monthly price will rise 3% from €75.20 to €77.45. Two years ago, a monthly Navigo pass cost users €70.

But while President of the Regional Council of Île-de-France Valérie Pécresse confirmed a price increase is being considered in an interview on rival TV channel LCI, she rejected the BFMTV's 3% figure.

In September, however, she had told Le Parisien that, "Ile-de-France Mobilités receipts should increase by 3% per year on average" to finance maintenance, development and improvement projects across the region's public transport network.
Any additional increase will come as a blow to commuters, to whom she had promised during a debate in December 2015 that the cost of a Navigo pass would remain at €70. "I will not play with the purchasing power of Parisians," she said.
