Meet the Macron lookalike on a moped

Elliot from Ile-de-France is a dead ringer for presidential candidate

A 24-year-old graphic designer from Ile de France has found unexpected fame - because he looks like Emmanuel Macron.

Elliot, from Seine-Saint-Denis, says he gets stopped at least once a day and first noticed that people saw the likeness back in 2014 when Macron became Minister for the Economy. “From that day on, I knew life was going to get complicated for me,” he told LCI.

Public attention for Elliot grew alongside Macron’s profile, with at least one person a day stopping him in the street. “Some people are awkward, shouting “We’ve found Macron’s double!” but others are more discreet and just smile at me”, he said in an interview with France Infos.

“And at work, people call me Macron three or four times a day,” he added.

At first, Elliot struggled with the publicity from the France Infos interview, especially on social media, but he decided to turn the new-found fame to his benefit – he is keen to promote the music he makes and his video was shown on the C8 entertainment show Touche pas a mon poste on Monday night.

In the first round of the presidential election, however, Elliot did not vote for his ‘sosie’ (double) and is not sure who to vote for in the second.

Asked if he would like to meet Macron if invited to do so by the politician’s team, he said: “I think I would accept. It’s a great thing to tell my children – and at least it’s not Marine Le Pen or François Fillon!”

He is sure Macron will win on May 7 and remains philosophical about how this will affect his life as a presidential lookalike. “I’m stuck with it for five years,’ he said. ‘So I might as well make the most of it.”
