Poorer households will have gas checked for free
With statistics showing 90% of accidents involving gas happen inside homes due to badly-maintained, leaky and ageing equipment, the housing improvement agency Anah is working with GRDF to fund work to upgrade gas units used in many homes.
Targeted at less-well-off families, the move will see the distributor carry out free checks on household gas installations and offer to replace old pipework with a flexible pipe to reduce leaks.
GRDF will also refund up to €150 of the cost of a replacement gas tap or getting rid of a soldered joint, which are known weak spots.
